Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), criticized Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that Ahiagbah should have faced prosecution for voting in the 2020 general election. Ahiagbah committed a crime by voting despite his name not being on the voters’ register, a fact he has publicly admitted. According to Ghana’s electoral laws, anyone whose name is not on the voters’ register is prohibited from voting. The law mandates imprisonment, a fine, and a five-year voting ban for such an offense.
In an interview, Richard Ahiagbah confirmed that he voted in the 2020 general elections even though his name was not on the voters’ register. He explained that he had a valid voter identification card issued after completing his registration in 2020, but his name was missing from the register when he went to vote.
Sammy Gyamfi emphasized that Ahiagbah should have been sentenced, fined, and banned from voting for five years after serving his sentence. Clearly, this situation highlights the importance of adhering to electoral laws to maintain the integrity of the voting process. 🗳️
